Revelation Chapter 8:6

Revelation 8:6 – So the seven angels who had the seven trumpets prepared themselves to sound.

The noises, thunderings, lightnings, and an earthquake from the throne seem to signal the seven angels to blow their trumpets, announcing the next set of judgments. Note the parallels between the Trumpet and Bowl judgments and the increasing severity of each successive judgment:

We read here (as in verse 2), of the seven angels that had been waiting orders to move.

Evidently in succession, perhaps by arranging themselves in the order in which they were to sound. The way is now prepared for the sounding of the trumpets, and for the fearful commotions and changes which would be indicated by that. The last seal is opened; heaven stands in suspense to know what is to be disclosed. The saints, filled with solicitude, have offered their prayers. The censer of coals has been cast to the earth, as if these judgments could be no longer stayed by prayer. And the angels prepare to sound the trumpets indicative of what is to occur.

Earthquake and Hail on the Nations 7th Trumpet – Heaven proclaims the Lord is about to return to begin His Kingdom and put an end to the kingdoms on Earth. God responds with lightnings, noises, thundering, an earthquake, and great hail (Revelation 11:15-19). 7th Bowl – God announces “It is done!” followed by noises, thundering, a great earthquake that destroys the cities of the nations, and exceedingly great hail (Revelation 16:17-21).

Also note that like the Seal judgments, the first four of each set of judgments primarily affect the creation, and the last three focus on the spiritual realm interacting with humans. (Click here for more on this topic). There is no need to spiritualize away any of these judgments to symbolism, as we find that many of them literally came on Egypt before the Exodus:

Moses and Aaron were two prophets that acted as witnesses before Pharaoh for the Lord. At the word of Moses and Aaron, God rained down judgment on Egypt. Likewise, two witnesses will arrive shortly before the Trumpet judgments begin, and they will witness against the beast and his kingdom. As was the case with Moses and Aaron, these judgments appear to come at the word of the two witnesses. In other words, the timing of each angel sounding on their trumpet occurs may be dependent on when the two witnesses call out each judgment from their post in Jerusalem:

Revelation 11:3, 6 – “And I will give power to my two witnesses, and they will prophesy one thousand two hundred and sixty days, clothed in sackcloth….” These have power to shut heaven, so that no rain falls in the days of their prophecy; and they have power over waters to turn them to blood, and to strike the earth with all plagues, as often as they desire.
