Revelation Chapter 7: 10

Revelation 7:10 – …and crying out with a loud voice, saying, “Salvation belongs to our God who sits on the throne, and to the Lamb!”

The multitude breaks out in loud corporate worship to the Lord. In the last section, we discussed that the Jewish people and the multitude in Heaven who wave palm branches, proclaiming Christ as King, is a picture of the whole assembly of saints acknowledging Christ as King, which will find fulfillment in the Feast of Tabernacles (John 12:12-13Matthew 21:8-9).

This is another view of the throne area. Of course, Elohim God is on the center throne. Jesus is sitting at the right hand of the Father. The four living beings are very near the throne. The twenty-four elders, representative of all Christendom, are very near as well. The angels encircle the throne. All fall before the throne of God in total adoration and worship.

The word “hosanna” is a transliteration of two Hebrew words meaning “save I pray.” Therefore, this group of Jews and the multitude in Heaven both acknowledge that Jesus is the Messiah, with the power of Salvation. John the Baptist’s father recognized this saving power of the Messiah:

Luke 1:68-69 – “Blessed is the Lord God of Israel, for He has visited and redeemed His people, and has raised up a horn of salvation for us in the house of His servant David.”

The Greek word translated “salvation” comes with the meaning of rescue or deliverance. David spoke of salvation as deliverance from his enemies:

Psalms 3:1-8 – A Psalm of David When He Fled from Absalom His Son. LORD, how they have increased who trouble me! Many are they who rise up against me. Many are they who say of me, “There is no help for him in God.” Selah But You, O LORD, are a shield for me, my glory and the One who lifts up my head. I cried to the LORD with my voice, and He heard me from His holy hill. Selah I lay down and slept; I awoke, for the LORD sustained me. I will not be afraid of ten thousands of people who have set themselves against me all around. Arise, O LORD; save me, O my God! For You have struck all my enemies on the cheekbone; You have broken the teeth of the ungodly. Salvation belongs to the LORD. Your blessing is upon Your people. Selah

Psalms 68:19-21 – Blessed be the Lord, who daily loads us with benefits, the God of our salvation! Selah Our God is the God of salvation; and to GOD the Lord belong escapes from death. But God will wound the head of His enemies, the hairy scalp of the one who still goes on in his trespasses.

Most of the saints in the multitude in Heaven will die at the hands of the antichrist. Their souls will be saved, and in death they will be delivered from the suffering they experienced on Earth (Revelation 7:16-17). In the end, Christ will avenge their blood:

Revelation 12:10-12 – Then I heard a loud voice saying in heaven, “Now salvation, and strength, and the kingdom of our God, and the power of His Christ have come, for the accuser of our brethren, who accused them before our God day and night, has been cast down. And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony, and they did not love their lives to the death. Therefore rejoice, O heavens, and you who dwell in them! Woe to the inhabitants of the earth and the sea! For the devil has come down to you, having great wrath, because he knows that he has a short time.”

Revelation 19:1-2 – After these things I heard a loud voice of a great multitude in heaven, saying, “Alleluia! Salvation and glory and honor and power belong to the Lord our God! For true and righteous are His judgments, because He has judged the great harlot who corrupted the earth with her fornication; and He has avenged on her the blood of His servants shed by her.”

Recall from Revelation 5:13, Christ is both: “Him who sits on the throne,” exhibiting His sovereign power, and the sacrificial “Lamb,” which shows two aspects of Christ. Recall from Revelation 5:7, the Father is invisible and Jesus is the only visible form of God there is (Hebrews 1:1-3, Colossians 1:15 & 2:9). Therefore, the one on the throne and the Lamb are both Jesus, which demonstrates God’s omnipresence, while showing us two characteristics of Him. Incidentally, Isaiah saw both aspects of the Lord when He called for an assembly of nations and people to hear that He was sending salvation through His servant:

Isaiah 43:9-13 – Let all the nations be gathered together, and let the people be assembled. Who among them can declare this, and show us former things? Let them bring out their witnesses, that they may be justified; Or let them hear and say, “It is truth.” “You are My witnesses,” says the LORD, “And My servant whom I have chosen, that you may know and believe Me, and understand that I am He. Before Me there was no God formed, nor shall there be after Me. I, even I, am the LORD, and besides Me there is no savior. I have declared and saved, I have proclaimed, and there was no foreign god among you; therefore you are My witnesses,” Says the LORD, “that I am God. Indeed before the day was, I am He; and there is no one who can deliver out of My hand; I work, and who will reverse it?”

Peter affirms that Jesus is the only one with the power to save, thus Salvation belongs to Him:

Acts 4:8-12 – Then Peter, filled with the Holy Spirit, said to them, “Rulers of the people and elders of Israel: If we this day are judged for a good deed done to a helpless man, by what means he has been made well, let it be known to you all, and to all the people of Israel, that by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom you crucified, whom God raised from the dead, by Him this man stands here before you whole. This is the ‘Stone which was rejected by you builders, which has become the chief cornerstone.’ Nor is there salvation in any other, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved.”
