Revelation Chapter 3:3

Revelation 3:3 “Remember therefore how thou hast received and heard, and hold fast, and repent. If therefore thou shalt not watch, I will come on thee as a thief, and thou shalt not know what hour I will come upon thee.”

“Come on thee as a thief”: Here the reference is not to Christ’s second coming (compare 16:15; 1 Thess. 5:2; 2 Peter 3:10), but to His sudden and unexpected coming to His unrepentant, dead church to inflict harm and destruction.

Here again Jesus is saying, your message at the beginning was alright, go back to that, the pure Word of God. Some new Bible translations are watering Jesus down to the point that He is not God in them.

Some Bible colleges would have their people believe that: Jesus was not born of a virgin, that the Red Sea did not part, that Jonah was not truly swallowed by a large fish, and many more things.

You see, they are reducing the miraculous workings of God and trying to analyze them with what they call scientific knowledge. This is just another attack of Satan to destroy the beauty of Christianity. These are basic to belief in salvation through Jesus Christ. If a mere man died for your sins, you are lost. Jesus was God manifest in the flesh. He was the perfect Lamb of God. He was and is LIFE. To deny that He was born of a virgin, denies that He is God the Son. You see, His Father must be God.

These false teachers say the Red Sea did not part, but was just a marshy area. If this is true, explain to me how the Egyptian soldiers were drowned.

You see, the whole thing is a conspiracy to deny the deity of Christ. This is very dangerous. If we deny Him, He will deny us before the Father (Matthew 10:33).

Of course, these false teachings include a teaching that there is no heaven and no hell. That they are just a state of mind. The Bible speaks explicitly about both and even tells us what they will be like. All of this is slightly preposterous.

We must believe the Bible in its entirety or not believe it at all. As for me, I believe it in its entirety. Jesus was Immanuel, God with us. I believe to deny Jesus as the Christ, the Son of the Living God, is to deny salvation through Him.”

Revelation 3:4 – You have a few names even in Sardis who have not defiled their garments; and they shall walk with Me in white, for they are worthy.

While Sardis was a church that had apparently made a name for themselves of their own merit, there were a few “names” or members in the church that sought to please the Lord instead; they had not “defiled their garments.” These “few names” were true believers. The next verse tells us that it is the “overcomers,” or believers (1 John 5:4-5), the Lord will clothe in white, which represents cleansing from sin (Revelation 3:5). In other words, most of the members of the church of Sardis were not saved because they were not worthy to wear white as an overcomer.

Jude shows that unbelievers wear defiled garments, as he pleads with believers to share the Gospel with those lost in any way possible – with love for the sinner, but not the sin:

Jude 1:22-23 – And on some have compassion, making a distinction; but others save with fear, pulling them out of the fire, hating even the garment defiled by the flesh.

The prophet Zechariah explains the defiled garments, where the Lord “plucked from the fire” Joshua the high priest, saving him from eternity in Hell. A change of garments, from defiled into clean, is a picture of the removal of iniquity though the salvation process:

Zechariah 3:1-4 – Then he showed me Joshua the high priest standing before the Angel of the LORD, and Satan standing at his right hand to oppose him. And the LORD said to Satan, “The LORD rebuke you, Satan! The LORD who has chosen Jerusalem rebuke you! Is this not a brand plucked from the fire?” Now Joshua was clothed with filthy garments, and was standing before the Angel. Then He answered and spoke to those who stood before Him, saying, “Take away the filthy garments from him.” And to him He said, “See, I have removed your iniquity from you, and I will clothe you with rich robes.”

These heavenly garments are even called “garments of salvation” in Isaiah:

Isaiah 61:10 – I will greatly rejoice in the LORD, my soul shall be joyful in my God; for He has clothed me with the garments of salvation, He has covered me with the robe of righteousness, as a bridegroom decks himself with ornaments, and as a bride adorns herself with her jewels.

Jesus also illustrated in the following parable that a guest must wear the proper garment to enter the wedding in the Kingdom of Heaven:

Matthew 22:2, 8-13 – “The kingdom of heaven is like a certain king who arranged a marriage for his son….” Then he said to his servants, ‘The wedding is ready, but those who were invited were not worthy. Therefore go into the highways, and as many as you find, invite to the wedding.’ So those servants went out into the highways and gathered together all whom they found, both bad and good. And the wedding hall was filled with guests. “But when the king came in to see the guests, he saw a man there who did not have on a wedding garment. So he said to him, ‘Friend, how did you come in here without a wedding garment?’ And he was speechless. Then the king said to the servants, ‘Bind him hand and foot, take him away, and cast him into outer darkness; there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.'”

What color is the proper wedding garment? White of course:

Revelation 19:7-9, 14 – “Let us be glad and rejoice and give Him glory, for the marriage of the Lamb has come, and His wife has made herself ready.” And to her it was granted to be arrayed in fine linen, clean and bright, for the fine linen is the righteous acts of the saints. Then he said to me, “Write: ‘Blessed are those who are called to the marriage supper of the Lamb!'” And he said to me, “These are the true sayings of God.” And the armies in heaven, clothed in fine linen, white and clean, followed Him on white horses.
