Daniel 12:8-13 – What Does the End of Daniel Mean?

Verse eight goes on to say I heard but I did not understand we can say amen to that that’s where we realized that Daniel didn’t get all of it he didn’t get this timing thing he didn’t understand that we need to hold on to that word when we read this time times and half a time language Daniel’s first response was I don’t understand then I said oh my lord what shall be the outcome of these things and he said go your way Daniel for the words are shut up and sealed until the end of time shut up and sealed until the end of time that’s not talking about hidden away that’s talked about being kept safe they’re being kept for the day in which they are to be applied but you Daniel just go about your work just like we saw you do at the end of chapter 8 we were so troubled by that vision just go on about your work don’t worry about how this works out just know from all of this detail I’ve got this in hand your job is to go about your work that’s what you’re called to do then I said oh my lord what shall become be the outcome of these things so how is it gonna work out he said go your way Daniel for your words are shut up and sealed until the end of time many shall purify themselves and make themselves white and be refined but the wicked shall act wickedly doesn’t that sound like revelation the righteous will continue on being righteous the wicked will continue on being wicked headed down the road that they’re headed on sounds just like that closing of revelation 22 and it’s verse 11 and from time that the regular burnt offering is taken away and the abomination that makes desolate is set up there shall be 1290 days blessed is he who waits and arrives at 1335 days this is a challenging description what in the world is this talking about I don’t know I don’t know it has something to do with the 1260 days I’m sure one of them instinct extended by 30 days another extended then by 45 more some of you suggested for instance that that the temple is cleansed in the first 30 and then the the the judgment of the wicket happens in the next 45 I don’t know I don’t know how that works exactly but the same word comes back in verse 13 but go your way till the end go your way till the end and you shall rest and shall stand in your ways allotted and stand in your allotted place at the end of days this will come to an end we recognize that it’s a measured time that’s one of the things that has been given to us an apocalyptic imagery as we continue to work to unpack how that works we can appreciate more and more perhaps of the detail that’s there but all of it is intended to say your focus needs to be on obedience and worship and going on your way doing your work your focus doesn’t need to be on figuring out that particular type of detail we have been given a picture here that helps us know that God is in control the question is is that sufficient for you you
